Dr. Gautham Krishnamurthy

Dr. Gautham Krishnamurthy is a distinguished Senior Consultant in Surgical Gastroenterology currently serving at Apollo Hospital in Chennai. With a robust foundation in advanced surgical interventions, he specializes in gastrointestinal and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) surgery. His technical expertise is reinforced by specialized training in minimal invasive HPB surgery obtained at GEM Hospital and robotic surgery certification from CMR robotics.  

His academic trajectory is marked by consistent excellence. He holds an M.Ch. in Surgical Gastroenterology from the prestigious PGIMER, Chandigarh, and an M.R.C.S. from Edinburgh. During his M.S. in General Surgery at Stanley Medical College, he secured multiple gold medals, including the Prof. CMK Reddy Vascular Gold Medal and the Prof. N. Varadarajan Vascular Gold Medal. He also achieved the Gold Medal in Pediatric Surgery, demonstrating a versatile command over complex surgical domains.  

Dr. Krishnamurthy is a prolific researcher whose contributions to pancreatic surgery are widely recognized. He received the IAGES Best Researcher Award in 2022 and a Medical Excellence Award from the Rotary Club in 2025. His research portfolio includes critical publications on pancreatic adenocarcinoma biomarkers and the management of complications following pancreaticoduodenectomy. His work has earned him numerous travel grants, including awards from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), as well as the Japan Surgical Society Travel Grant in 2020.  

His commitment to advancing the field is further evidenced by his role as an Executive Committee Member of the Indian Chapter of the IHPBA and his ongoing research into standardizing difficult laparoscopic cholecystectomy techniques.
